David R. Cornish has resided in Sarasota County and practiced law in Venice since the fall of 1997. Prior to his coming to Florida, David engaged in a general law practice for twenty years in Xenia, Dayton and Fairborn, Ohio. He also was an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with the Greene County, Ohio Prosecutor's office and an Assistant Vice President with the Private Bank of Key Trust Company of Ohio, N.A.

David attended the University of Florida and The Ohio State University, obtaining a B.A. degree from Ohio State in 1972. He then attended the Ohio Northern University, Pettit College of Law, obtaining his law degree (Juris Doctor) in 1976.

Since coming to Venice, David has engaged in a solo practice concentrating in the areas of estate planning, wills and trusts, probate administration, guardianship and real estate. Initially sharing space in the Northern Trust building with the law firm of Isphording, White & Roden, he has maintained his practice in The Snyder Law Building in downtown Venice since May, 1999.

David married Diane M. Auckland in April, 1986. They have one daughter, Lindsay, a 2008 graduate of Venice High School and a 2012 graduate of Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio, graduating with a BSN degree. Lindsay is now a Registered Nurse, currently employed at the Shands Hospital of the University of Florida in Gainesville.

David is very active in the community. He is a member of The Bridge Church. He is past President of the United Way of South Sarasota County and past President of Venice Sunrise Rotary Club (formerly South Venice Rotary Club). He is a past Vice-Chair of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce. He is currently the President of Widow Persons Service and is a member of the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity, South Sarasota County and the Salvation Army Advisory Board.

David is an avid golfer, playing in the Rotary golf league for several years with his partner, John Ryan, President/CEO of the Venice Area Chamber of Commerce. He has also played in numerous golf tournaments benefitting area chambers of commerce and charitable organizations in Sarasota County.
